History of the Australian Labradoodle Associations
The Labradoodle Association of Australia (LAA) and the International Labradoodle Association (ILA), were the first two organizations established to monitor the development of the Australian Labradoodle. The LAA officially incorporated in 2000. The International Labradoodle Association (ILA) was incorporated in Hawaii in January 2004. These organizations primarily focused on the following:
- Establish and verify pedigrees for Labradoodle blood lines
- Provide ancestry of registered lines completely transparent to the public (no hidden in-breeding or additional infused breeds)
- Refocus the efforts of breeders on the health testing of previously untested lines
- Promote Labradoodle-to-Labradoodle breeding with consistent results
- Introduce new Labrador-to-Poodle-only lines to widen the gene pool of top quality Labradoodles
In 2005, the LAA officially changed their name to the Australian Labradoodle Association (ALA) when they united with the Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA), formerly known as the ILA, and became known as the International Australian Labradoodle Association (IALA), a single entity of sister associations with the
protection of the Labradoodle’s past and future as a common goal. The IALA is now the largest International Australian Labradoodle Registry Association in the world. The ALA represents Australia, Europe, Asia and New Zealand while the ALAA represents North America.
